The fashion revolution
- On 3 March 2021
Fashion is one of the driving sectors of our economy; without being arrogant, we can assert that the Italian style is recognized and appreciated all over the world.
In the past, the term “revolution” in the fashion world was closely linked to its product: the explosion of the bikini, the transformation into a synonym of elegance of a color (red for example) previously considered vulgar, making a garment of the peasant tradition chic or marinara (think of the Korean collar or blue jeans), mock the time by proposing already worn and tattered garments. Provocation, research into materials, reinventing or overturning tradition were the weapons of style, which, if wisely used, was enough to transform a tailor into an “arbiter elegantiarum”.
Today this is no longer the case: several factors combine to ensure that the entire costume sector must revolutionize not only its products but also its entire production process.
The need, common to all production activities, to reduce their environmental impact; the great economic crisis which, with a view to reducing costs, forced us to rethink sales methods, favoring digital platforms to the detriment of traditional shops; the change in the role of the consumer, no longer passive receptor of what the market offers, but determined and with the possibility of making his tastes and needs weighed; lastly, the Covid pandemic, which has forced us to reinvent fashion shows, events, presentations, or the traditional communication channels used by fashion.
Digital technology can also provide the fashion world with effective tools to undertake the revolution (understood as a reorganization of processes) that will lead to respond to new needs and to overcome the challenges launched by the present.
SAP, exploiting the potential of its now established In Memory Computing, has created a Suite designed explicitly for the needs of Fashion, the Fashion Management Suite. Digitization of creative processes, vertical integration with production processes, optimization of the collection and visualization of images, to get to their management in 3D mode, pushed virtualization that can be applied to a single garment, to an entire collection, up to to digital showcases, the latter also designed to collect the reactions of potential customers in real time; procedures for the optimized management of Big Data and Applications that allow you to easily extrapolate the information of greatest interest; integration with the main e-commerce platforms and the most popular social networks; dynamic management of the reference parameters for the various sectors. All this with the dual objective on the one hand of making both the creative and production process more efficient, avoiding waste of materials, resources and time (with a particularly attentive eye to the aspects of logistics and storage), on the other hand to allow stylists to present their ingenuity and their inspiration in an effective and safe way, even outside the world of the catwalks, directly addressing the individual possible buyer and, if desired, interacting with him.
The facts testify to the goodness of the SAP solution:
